For all students:
The semester start is on 15 March and all students have to be on site. Otherwise, the studies cannot be started.

Even APS delays do not change the rule.
We as a university cannot influence the APS processes and therefore ask you to refrain from individual enquiries via email!

English:

Applicants must provide proof of English language skills at level B2 (CEFR).
We strongly recommend English language skills at level C1!

Proof of the required English language skills must be submitted by the time of enrolment (beginning of March for the summer semester) at the latest. The THWS enrolment regulations also contain more detailed regulations on this.

You can find an overview of recognised certificates here.

German:
Non-native speakers must provide proof of German language skills at level A2 (CEFR). This language level, with the corresponding certificate, can also be achieved within the first two semesters of the degree programme.

You can also take language courses at THWS, for example.
Our Campus for Language Proficiency offers both online and face-to-face courses.

After you submitted all necessary documents, you will receive the letter of admission in the application portal, in the case of programmes with restricted admission you will receive it via hochschulstart.de. When you accepted the offered study place, the letter of admission will be made available as a PDF file in the online application portal APPLY. There will be no postal delivery.

We do not charge tuition fees, only a semester fee (currently 156 € per semester).
You can find more information about the semester fee here.

A payment confirmation for the semester fee will only be issued once the payment has been credited to our system and all requested documents (including proof of health insurance) have been received.

Even if you have arranged for the semester fee to be transferred well in advance, the incoming payment is only checked shortly before the semester begins.

Therefore, please be patient until March (start in a summer semester) and refrain from enquiring about the receipt of payment before that time.

The payment confirmation is sent automatically and it is neither necessary nor useful to inquire about the individual status.

You will receive your THWS access data as soon as you have submitted all the necessary documents to our Department of Student Affairs (HSST) and transferred the semester fee.

Even if you have arranged for the semester fee to be transferred well in advance, the incoming payment will only be checked shortly before the start of the semester. As a result, your IT access data will only be made available to you under your account in the APPLY online application portal after this time.

Therefore, please be patient until March (if you are starting in the summer semester) and refrain from enquiring about the receipt of payment before that time.

Note:
Access data is only available for enrolled students!
You can see your status in the Apply system.

You will find the THWS access data in a separate document (as soon as they have been generated) under Details ("i").

The picture shows the text explained above again in picture form.

You will usually receive your student ID card at the MAI first semester event.

If you have a German application address, we will send you the THWS card by post.

Please note:

  • Keep the address saved in APPLY up to date, in particular if you plan to change your address, for example because you move to your study location. Updating your address is possible at any time via APPLY.
  • The THWS Card we send is not yet valid, but must be validated at one of our validation machines. Please refer to the corresponding page The THWS Card for more information.

Important notice:
You must pick up your student ID by March 15 at the latest!

Option 1: Receive your ID at the Campus Tour (March 14 2024).

Applicants with at least 180 ECTS credits, but less than 210 ECTS credits may be admitted to the degree programme on a provisional basis. The missing qualification must be made up by completing certain relevant modules from undergraduate programmes of THWS or equivalent modules in the first year of studies.

The modules that need to be completed must be closely coordinated with the examination board!
You will receive an email with the modules that are relevant for you before the start of your studies.

CAIRO Building

The CAIRO building can be used until 10 pm (but no longer) from Monday to Friday.

At 10 pm a security guard will come and check that the windows and doors are closed.
Therefore, please make sure that you have collected all your personal items before 10 pm at the latest so that the security guard can close the building at 10 pm.

The building is closed for students on weekends and holidays.

Living in Würzburg

We have provided some tips for you on the page "Information for 1st semester students".

We cannot guarantee you a place in a student hall of residence!
Unfortunately, it is currently very difficult to find free rooms/flats in Würzburg and the surrounding area.
Therefore, please plan enough time for your accommodation search.

In Würzburg, there are eleven student residences operated by the Studentenwerk. As a THWS student, you can apply for a room (note the application deadlines!). Depending on the residence, you can choose between single apartments and rooms in shared apartments. In general, the residences are within walking distance to campus. You can find information on the furnishing and the location of the places in the overview on the website of the Studentenwerk.

In addition to the Studentenwerk, other organisations such as 522 Apartunities also offer student residences. The Studentenwerk has compiled an overview of other student accommodations.
